Oyu Tolgoi, Mongolian for Turquoise Hill, is a combined open pit and underground mining project. The Parliament passed a law in May that restricted foreign investment in the country’s most attractive asset, its mineral deposits. Now, the government is taking aim at a crucial deal with the multinational mining giant Rio Tinto, a pact that many see as the foundation of the country’s recent economic growth.
