NBC News and MSNBC Cut Ties With Mark Halperin

On Friday, Mr. Halperin posted a statement of apology on Twitter.

“I am profoundly sorry for the pain and anguish I have caused by my past actions. I apologize sincerely to the women I mistreated,” he wrote.

“Some of the allegations that have been made against me are not true,” he added, without specifying which ones. “But I realize that is a small point in the scheme of things. Again, I bear responsibility for my outrageous conduct at ABC News.”

Mr. Halperin said that he attended counseling sessions for “several years around my departure” from ABC News. He left the company a decade ago.

As one of the country’s best-known journalists, Mr. Halperin co-wrote “Double Down: Game Change 2012,” a book about the 2012 election. It was made into a movie for HBO, which said last week that it was dropping a planned television adaptation of his coming book about the 2016 election. The book itself has been canceled by Penguin Press.

And Showtime, for which he hosted the documentary series “The Circus,” announced that if the show were to be renewed for a third season, Mr. Halperin would not be invited back.
