Currents | Gardens: Wilder Quarterly, a New Magazine for Contemporary Growers

Wilder Quarterly, a gardening magazine being introduced on Monday, targets a new generation of growers and urban farmers.

“It’s for contemporary gardeners,” said Celestine Maddy, publisher of the Brooklyn-based magazine. “People who are growing in unusual situations: people who have gardens on their fire escapes, or kids who have moved out to start farming in very strange and unusual ways.”

The first issue features tips on seasonal plants like Cheddar cauliflower, articles on space-challenged gardens, another on the rise of urban chickens and one on a pair of friends who plant food-producing gardens in the back of pickup trucks, among other things.

The magazine is edited by Kate Sennert, a former editor of Tokion magazine, and contributors to the first issue include the former House Garden editor Dominique Browning and the chef Josh Adams.
