Gadgetwise Blog: A Camera Bag That Actually Looks Good

Camera bags usually get short shrift when it comes to design and fashion-forward thinking. While laptop bags often look like little purses complete with fancy buckles and handsome materials, most camera bags are one step up from a fanny pack in styling.

The Niko by Chrome Bags ($95, chromebagstore.com) aims to change that perception. This bag fits one large DSLR and about 5 lenses and flash components. I was able to stick a big Canon shooter and three lenses along with a separate flash in a bag that is 15 inches long and six inches deep.

Taking, manipulating and organizing digital photographs.

There is an extra pouch for a larger lens or another camera on the top and straps for a mini tripod on the side.

The bag is made of water-resistant nylon and has heavy-duty nylon zippers. It weights 2.5 pounds empty. It is matte black with rubber detailing and Chrome’s bright red-and-black gryphon logo front and center on the top flap.

The Niko includes Chrome’s unique “quick release” seatbelt buckle/bottle opener that snugs the front strap around your body. You wear the Niko around one shoulder like a small messenger bag.

At a little less than $100 you’re definitely going to think twice before picking this bag up on a whim. However, if you’re tired of wearing camera bags that look like the lumpen egg sacs of some horrible Nikon-bred super-beetle, this may be the bag for you.
