Bucks: An Unvarnished Critique of Your Finances

Paul Sullivan, in his Wealth Matters column this week, writes about the experience of having his financial life examined by eight wealthy men, all members of an investment club called Tiger 21.

Paul went into the session thinking that he and his wife were in good financial shape. They save a good bit of their income. And they don’t have any debt besides their mortgages and a car payment. But, as Paul describes it, the group quickly zeroed in on several mistakes, starting with the fact that Paul and his wife do not have enough life or disability insurance.

While the experience was painful, Paul says he concluded that it was worthwhile.

Have you ever had anyone take a broad look at your finances? What did you learn? Did you make changes afterward?
